St George's CE Primary School

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The subject leader for Physical Education is Mrs Towell

At St George’s Primary, we encourage all pupils to be fit and healthy. We believe it is important to provide them with a lively and stimulating P.E. curriculum that will encourage them to increase their personal fitness as well as develop a life-long enjoyment of physical exercise and sport.

Throughout the school, the children learn to develop skills in:

    • Gymnastics
    • Dance
    • Games
    • Swimming
    • Athletics

Check out the Urban Extreme Dance on 1st December 2022, where the children came 5th place overall. Absolutely amazing St. Georges!

We work closely with Tameside Local Authority and our local cluster schools to provide opportunities for pupils of all ages to participate in sporting festivals and competitions.

Pupils in Year 1 and 2 and all of Key stage 2 all benefit from a weekly session with a coach from Active Tameside who comes to our school.  These sessions include a wide range of sports, games and skills.  A second PE lesson takes place at another time in the week, but complements and extends what is offered by the sports coach and covers much of the gymnastics curriculum.  Year 4 children undertake swimming lessons at Copley School Swimming Pool for 2 terms.  The Summer term of 12 weeks is used to support any children from Year 4, 5 and 6 who have not met the National Curriculum requirements for the end of Key Stage 2 in this area

Foundation Stage and Year 1 children have hall access twice a week for development of their physical education.
