At St George’s Primary, we encourage all pupils to be fit and healthy. We believe it is important to provide them with a lively and stimulating P.E. curriculum that will encourage them to increase their personal fitness as well as develop a life-long enjoyment of physical exercise and sport.
Throughout the school, the children learn to develop skills in:
We work closely with Tameside Local Authority and our local cluster schools to provide opportunities for pupils of all ages to participate in sporting festivals and competitions.
Pupils in Year 1 and 2 and all of Key stage 2 all benefit from a weekly session with a coach from Active Tameside who comes to our school. These sessions include a wide range of sports, games and skills. A second PE lesson takes place at another time in the week, but complements and extends what is offered by the sports coach and covers much of the gymnastics curriculum. Year 4 children undertake swimming lessons at Copley School Swimming Pool for 2 terms. The Summer term of 12 weeks is used to support any children from Year 4, 5 and 6 who have not met the National Curriculum requirements for the end of Key Stage 2 in this area and to introduce the Year 3 children to swimming
Foundation Stage and Year 1 children have hall access twice a week for development of their physical education.
